Imagine a place of solitude and simplicity; a cosy cabin nestled in the corner of a meadow. Imagine the sound of the breeze gently rustling the treetops, a backdrop of birdsong and gently cascading water. Imagine a bench by your own private stream with dappled sunshine peaking through the canopy of leaves. Imagine a sanctuary. This is Den by the Stream, a fully immersive therapy retreat.
Den by the Stream has proved to be a therapeutic experience just as a place to stay. Its simplicity slows you down and calms the body.
Imagine what you can achieve in this calm and tranquil place, as you work through your troubles and challenges with a supportive and encouraging therapist. Someone who is really hearing you, not judging you and focused on helping you feel better about things.

At some point in our lives, most of us will struggle with issues relating to work, relationships, divorce, bereavement, financial worries, stress, feeling stuck or invisible, to name a few. These challenges can impact our mental wellbeing.
In the peaceful solitute you'll find at Den by the Stream, without the distractions of work or home, you'll find you have the time you need to reflect and process after every therapy session. This plays an important role in healing and creating lasting change.
If you've ever wished you could press 'pause' on your life and take time out, Den by the Stream is the perfect place to do it. Our fully immersive individual therapy retreat combines the restorative healing power of nature with the support and encouragement of your BACP registered therapist. Together you can explore what makes you who you are and how you can build the kind of life you want and be the kind of person you want to be. Learn how to free yourself from unhelpful and outdated values and beliefs and create new useful and positive ways of thinking.
During your stay you'll have daily 90 minute therapy sessions over five days. With no pressure to be anywhere or get anything done and no distractions from other people, you'll have the time you need for reflection. The results can be life changing!
If you and your therapist feel more therapy sessions are needed, you can continue to work (online) together after you return home. You'll already have formed a trusting therapeutic relationship and the work can seamlessly continue.

Although the Den is surrounded by nature, it's located just over one mile to the lovely historic town of Cardigan. The coast, with its glorious clifftop walks, is nearby. Here you can watch out for dolphins and seals and along the Teifi river in the West Wales Nature Reserve you can spend some time birdwatching and otter spotting. Closer still, we're surrounded here by quiet country lanes for walking and cycling.
Den by the Stream is the perfect get away for solitude and relaxation. The retreat is designed just for one or two adults and is a perfect place to bring your dog.

This is where you'll be staying; a cosy hand-built, off-grid cabin. Inside it's light, airy and suprisingly spacious. Simply and comfortably furnished, you'll find everything you need to get away from the stress of every day life.
Originally built as a holiday retreat, it has been appreciated by guests from all over the UK and Europe
The Den has been chosen for honeymoons, anniversaries, couples just starting out and couples celebrating 50 years together. It’s also been a healing haven for couples and single guests recovering from tough life events.

The Den has the perfect restorative environment for you to take time out whilst working through difficult life challenges. As a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, I believe it's an ideal combination for those needing professional therapeutic help and support to transform their lives.
We've had amazing reviews over the years, holiday guests have told us their stay was “a magical week”, “truly idyllic”, “little slice of paradise”, “slice of heaven” and “pure bliss”.
I'm pleased to offer Fully Immersive Therapy at Den by the Stream as an additional element to my private practice.

When you need some time away from other people, Den by the Stream gives you plenty of peace and space. It's set in a 3 acre meadow bordered by private woodland with the stream running through. Here you'll find benches dotted around providing quiet places to sit and do things at your own pace.
Designed just for two you can come alone or with a loved one or supportive friend. Your dog is welcome too!

The therapeutic work takes place here in The Garden Room, a detached building a short walk away from The Den but located on the premises. The Garden Room is filled with light with a lovely restful outlook across fields and trees. A comfortable and homely space to put you at ease.
If you prefer your sessions to be outdoors there's a variety of spaces within a private garden or in the meadow.
As well as working with residential clients, I welcome local clients who book for weekly one hour sessions.

I chose to train in Adlerian Counselling and Psychotherapy because of its positive and holistic nature. I work collaboratively with you, supporting and encouraging you throughout the process.
Specialising in grief and loss, I not only offer bereavement support, but I also work with clients feeling profound loss through relationship breakdown, family issues, betrayal, retirement, empty-nesting and menopause, to name a few.
PTSD can be a major factor in the struggle some have with everyday life, often undiagnosed. As a qualified practitioner of Rewind Therapy (IARTT), specifically for the treatment of PTSD, I can offer you treatment without the need for you to disclose your trauma. Dr David Muss (the originator) called Rewind "Closure without Disclosure". This technique is highly effective, fast-acting and safe, requiring between 1 -3 sessions. It has also proved to be equally effective when treating clients online.
I also trained with Cruse as a Bereavement Volunteer, and continue to work with their clients, regularly attending their ongoing development training.
A weekly client has kindly agreed for me to share their testimonial:
"I was at an all time low, feeling I had no control of anything. I’d spent my whole life being a ‘people pleaser’. Through the course of sessions I had with Linda, I realised, with her help and subtle guidance, that I could change my outlook and my behaviour could change the way I dealt with my perceived problems. By looking at situations from a different angle, being more positive and confident, I’m moving forward and looking towards a fulfilling future."
My private therapy practice is just outside Cardigan. As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), you can be assured I work to an ethical and high standard of practice.

It's essential that you feel your therapist is 'a good fit' for you. It's therefore helpful for you to know a little about me, before deciding whether I'm the right therapist to work alongside you for the duration of your stay.
Sometimes we can get lost or stuck, but by understanding oursves better, we can see more clearly where we're going and what the obstacles are and decide if we want to change direction. l'm encouraging, always hopeful, analytical and solution focused. I'll help you work towards your goals. I believe we all have it within ourselves to rethink our perceptions, to make changes to who we are and be more involved in shaping the life we want.
I've made choices which have turned out better than I could have imagined, others definitely not so much, but owning the choices I've made has helped me accept the outcomes and see opportunity for learning and growth and where I need to change.
I enjoy being outdoors, both in the stunning countryside and impressive coastal areas of West Wales. I love animals, particularly dogs and horses. I like being creative and enjoy repurposing things that are no longer functioning at their best.

My work history
Horses have been a lifelong passion and led me to a fulfilling career as a Riding Therapist working with young people with a huge range of mental health issues. This gave me insight into (and fascination with) how differently people respond to life's challenges and sowed the seed for me to become a counsellor and psychotherapist later in my life.
I've worked in environments such as corporate, retail, creative arts, education and hospitality, as well as periods of self-employment both in the UK and abroad. As different as these sectors are, they all involve establishing relationships with a wonderfully diverse range of people and developing an understanding of what drives them or holds them back.
In order to follow my dreams I returned to education later in life. I achieved a Level 7 Diploma in Executive Management (Chartered Institute of Management), CELTA and Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (ASIIP).

Please note that for ethical reasons I can't take a client who is in the process of seeing another counsellor at the time of their stay.
